7+1 :: Martha Cate

I'll be the first one to tell you that I am more than a little freaked out by Interweb Land sometimes. It's made the world a much smaller place, which I *love* but when my mom and all her friends started getting on Facepage, I got a little wigged out. I mean chatting online used to just involve that little IM thing, which was mostly used by people between the ages of 15 and 22 who were trying to avoid homework or find someone to empathize over the turmoil of chemistry 110.

Anyway, so when I started this blog it was to document things post-graduation. I never actually expected anyone I knew to read it... let alone people I went to high school with. Enter Martha Cate. I knew *of* Martha Cate in high school because she was older and pretty, she was awkwardly tall like me (a trait that I find endearing in any woman), and she was known to be really smart and this crazy good swimmer. So when I subbed with her crazy*awesome mom one day and found out she read my blog, I totally felt like one of those kids that stands up against the gym wall while everyone judges whether or not they'd be good at dodgeball (p.s. I was always picked last in this game).

But as things turned out, Martha Cate and I were *a lot* alike and she was really super nice! And once we started talking via the interwebs, we became really fast friends! I was *super* excited when she agreed to do a 7+1 :) Martha Cate is a landscape designer by day (she just did a gorgeous plan for us that you will see this spring), but recently started her own photography business and takes gorgeous photographs (like these I showed you). You can read more about her and keep up with her photos via her blog. So without further ramblings...

 7 Nerdy Q's & 1 Fill-in-the-blank:

Q1: What 3 sites do you visit regularly for inspiration via the interwebs?
A: I have to pick just 3?  Well Photography blogs I visit on a regular basis are 5ringsphoto, Caroline Ghettes, and The Blonde Photographer.  Although I have been known to visit B's Wig Shoppe on a daily basis :)

Q2: What 3 activities do you do regularly that keep you inspired?
A: Not to sound cliche' but I pray on a more than daily basis.  That definately keeps me inspired and excited...not quite knowing what is in store for me, but excited about what is to come.  I never put my camera down.  I shoot everything and anything.  I always have my photographer eyes on.  I also look at other people's work.  Not to copy, but because I love looking at good photographs.  I love a good photograph.

Q3: What 3 books are on your nightstand right now?
A: I actually don't have any.  I did have one as of last week, and it was a baby journal from when I was pregnant last fall.  Sadly, that ended in a miscarriage.  For some reason I kept that journal on my nightstand...until last week when I decided to put it away.  I think I finally have closure over the whole process.

Q4: Where do your ideas usually begin?
A: Hmmm...usually I just get one type of picture I want and go from there.  Like I did a shoot with my nephews and I wanted crazy hair with gel.  Or a more recent shoot I did with cutie, Abby, I wanted to use a tutu.

Q5: What was your last creative endeavor?
A5: I've learned to make props!  I can crochet (although I don't follow patterns), and I just made a tutu.

Q6: What were you before you became the *you* are now? (previous jobs, failed attempts, etc.)
A: I was the queen of college majors.  I majored in math education (gross), photography, environmental science, and landscape design.  I've always been a free spirit.  Right now I've got the best of both worlds.  I do landscape design and photography.  Basically I get paid to color and take pictures...what more could I ask for?

Q7: What was the deciding factor that made you decide to be an photographer/blogger?
A: I loved looking at 5RingsPhoto and B's Wig Shoppe's blogs.  Once I decided to go for the photography thing, I knew a blog was a way to go.  I haven't looked back since.

When I was 6, I wanted to be...
*an interpreter for the hearing impaired.  My aunt is one.*
