*peter pan :: 1953*

In case you were wondering, last Friday was the 57th anniversary of the premiere of Walt Disney's Peter Pan! If you're in need of a little *inspiration* today (that will come in the form of pixie dust and flying), I highly recommend sitting down in front of the tube with a mug of hot chocolate and enjoying it :)

I fell in love with the classic story that most people know when my daddy took me to the theatre to see the stage version. I was probably 5? and the people flying over our heads singing was really one of the *most*magical* things I can remember from when I was super young. Here's a little Peter-Pan-esque inspiration to get you started...

And, as if that weren't enough, I discovered this insanely wonderful idea put together by Meg Hunt (insanely cook illustrator... go peruse her site too!) the other day called the Picture Book Report. Meg has gathered 15 illustrators to portray their favorite book, and Mr. Fancy Pants himself, Will Bryant, has chosen to do Peter Pan!
{click on each picture to get his 1st 2 entries.}

I've heard that the actual story, which was first published as a novel in 1911, is quite different from the Disney story so Husband bought me the book for Christmas and as part of my New Year's goals it's on the list for me to start tonight!

Hope everyone is having a safe and blessed Tuesday!

*just for kicks*

So in December I got the perfect white T... I know it sounds ridiculous but I *love* white tshirts–tanks, t's, long-sleeve, I love them all. Anyway, the first time I wore it, I spilled wine down the front. Super sad! So this week, I sewed on a new front.

Which then reminded me of a Star Trek uniform because of the way the blue part is angled... (Husband and I just finished watching *all* the TNG episodes in order and now I'm pretty sure he's turned me into an official nerd.) So naturally, I made this super cute combadge...

I've made some more, and I think I'm going to put them in le shoppe on MONDAY!

*style file : Jane Russell*

{One of my *favorite* movies is Gentlemen Prefer Blondes...
this is Jane Russell singing to the Olympic team.}
Jane Russell. An idol of sorts. The woman for whom the underwire was invented (by Howard Hughes for her first film, The Outlaw... altho she would never actually wear it). Whatever happened to the generation where curves made the woman and not bones sticking out from various places? Sometimes I'm pretty sure I was born in the wrong era.

*in which there is coffee to be had*

Well, this weekend Husband has a band thing in Gatlinburg with some of the high schoolers, and I am going to be the 'female adult.' We actually live so close that I will be back and forth a lot in the next few days, but I just thought you the reader should know lest you feel neglected or unloved when I don't post tomorrow ;)

I can't tell you how much I appreciate all of you! It's so nice & encouraging to know that there are like-minded people out there in interweb land.

As a bit of a personal update, I am setting up an advising appointment at UT (hopefully for next week) to check out my options for getting a masters to teach preK. I don't really know if it's what I'm supposed to do, although I'm pretty sure Husband is convinced which has to mean something... Anyway, it never hurts to check things out, right? Goodness knows I have no other big, adult career plans anytime soon that will sound super impressive. I just want something that feels right. Incidentally, do you think there's any way God would consider the whole burning bush thing again? or perhaps a lightning bolt with   a giant pink post-it   note?

We shall see.

In the meantime, I am off to get coffee and drive up to the mountains... I will see you Saturday!

*everything in its place*

Made this the other day and have been finding it super handy for keeping all of my stitchery things in one place...

*lunch break*

If only I could *cook & eat* for a living...

*7 random things*

Happy Wednesday, ya'll! Here are 7 Random Things that are guaranteed to make you smile this morning...

1. This pretty adorable promotional movie was made for this Scottish company by this guy... the line about models toward the end had me laughing out loud to myself :/ A little embarrassing, I know.

2. This cute blog posted some vintage food Valentines yesterday... I totally want this one!

3.I found Dan Gneiding's personal portfolio site a couple of weeks ago and *love* it! If you don't know, Dan is the senior graphic designer at Urban Outfitters (p.s. I *totally* want to live IN an Urban Outfitters store... preferably the one in Charleston!) Anyway, his design work is flawless and right now on his blog he's working on a pretty hilarious Star Wars project... take a look!

4. I was going on a hunt for who did the typography for this upcoming movie and found this movie (here) that was just released.
Typeface:The Movie is a documentary that talks about the craft that is being preserved at the Hamilton Wood Type Museum in Wisconsin. As someone who's worked (and struggled because I have *no* patience) with woodtype, I love when they are looking at the *E* as an art form. Typography is a really beautiful thing in and of itself.

5. This made me think about our local press, YEEHAW INDUSTRIES...

Visit their Etsy shop here. We have quite a few of their prints hanging all around our house.  In fact, the Zombies print was a graduation present from Husband and will be hanging in our dining room when we get it all put together next week.

6. Back to Alice in Wonderland. I've really been intrigued (as everyone has, I know!) with the gorgeous feeling that you get from the typography and patterns in these amazing posters.

(How insanely awesome is the giraffe in that garden?!?!)
I still don't know who did the typography (does anyone out there?), but I did find out that the supervising art director, Stefan Dechant, also worked on films like Where the Wild Things Are, Avatar (not my taste but still impressive) and Polar Express! I bet this will be his most gorgeous work yet!

7. Last but not least, we never got around to seeing Where the Wild Things Are! It's one of the few artist cardinal sins these days, I know! We're just more Netflix kind of people... it's on our Queue if that counts? Anyway, I found this interview with Chris Searl, the onset photographer, and it's truly gorgeous and inspiring so check it out!

Hope you found something to make you smile! :D
I'll be back later with some crafty things I've been working on lately...
